Topics I've Started

For girls starting out or guys starting their girlfriends out

01 February 2009 - 02:49 AM

I first put this in a different thread, but after Savage's suggestion I thought I might as well start my own thread with it for any guys who have girlfriends who want to start playing or girls who are thinking of starting themselves.

I'm a girl and I just started playing paintball the last few months. I absolutely love it, but buying gear and committing to a marker was one of the most difficult parts about starting up. Luckily, my boyfriend is MattyK and since he plays he was able to help me out a lot.

What I would recommend for your girlfriend, and I know a lot of people might talk shit about this, is getting her an autococker. Not an old one, but a new one. My reason behind this is that getting her a non-electric gun will make things ten times easier for her to understand. She's already going to have to learn about the tank, loading pods and managing her hopper so her gun is just one other thing she shouldn't have to worry about. Electric guns can be hard to understand at first, especially for girls who aren't already electronically savy (such as myself). I shoot a WGP Trilogy and I love it. I've played with my boyfriend's Bob Long Vice and although its a nice gun, starting with something like that would have confused the hell out of me. (I am saving up for a Protege or SLG though ;) )

As far as hoppers go, just get her something decent that doesn't have a reputation for breaking balls.

Tank, go with the boobie tank. The size was the most difficult part about shooting a paintball marker for the first time because of my small size. Those tanks are amazing and I'm saving up to get one.

For mask, just get her something that WONT FOG UP! We went paintballing the other day and the weather was pretty cold, so even though I have a decent mask (Proto), it fogged up after a few games. That can be tough for anyone to deal with, but for a beginner its even more frustrating. I'd go with a V-Force Pro Vantage. Its only $25-$30 and has a lens that's anti-fog and anti-scratch. That's the best bet for your buck, if you ask me.

Gear? Just stick with sweatshirts and sweats for now. I just got my first pair of real pants (Inverts) and I love them, but they can be expensive. Make sure she's okay with getting hit a little more before you invest in gear. Clothes are clothes at the end of the day, right?

If you need any more suggestions, let me know! I don't think there are many girls on this forum and although I'm not as experienced as some of these guys, I'd be willing to help give advice to girls who play. I'm loving it and hope more girls get in to the game!

Thinking of getting a new marker...

01 February 2009 - 02:22 AM

So when I first started playing a few months ago my boyfriend got me an autococker and I've loved shooting it! But now I'm thinking about upgrading to an electric to shoot a little faster since we're starting to play more speedball than woods ball. The markers aren't too heavy for me as I'm a fairly strong girl, but I'm thinking about getting the new 09 Proto SLG. I know its all around a pretty good marker, but I'm mostly thinking that something thats the lightest on the market can only help me. My budget is most certainly under $300. Any inputs? Suggestions? I'd appreciate some feedback, especially since I'm still some what of a noob

People who steal

01 February 2009 - 01:33 AM

So the other morning I drove on to my college campus after leaving my boyfriend's house and parked in a public and open parking lot on campus. We go to school in a very small town with some of the lowest theft and crime activity in Washington State, which is why what happened was such a shock to me. So I parked my car, got out, took a few steps and walked to the back of my car. While I was walking I was looking through my gym back to make sure I had my ID card to get in. I was about 10 feet away from the back of my car and was concentrating on finding my card. About 20-30 seconds passed and when I turned around to lock my car, my front door was open and that was NOT how I left it. I looked around and didn't see anyone and the wind had been blowing super hard so I didn't hear anyone either. I looked in my car and my $300 iPod, a ring my boyfriend gave me when we first started dating four years ago and my grandmother's pearl earring were gone. I just couldn't believe someone had the balls to open my door and snatch my shit while I was standing RIGHT THERE!!! Maybe I'm ignorant and foolish for not locking my car immediately, but I was standing right next to it and was making sure I had my ID before I locked my car and left it.

I guess my rant is just that people are selfish, ridiculous assholes sometimes and I don't understand why people steal. I consider myself to be a very optimistic person and I try and see the good in the world and in people, but this shit really pissed me off...

Girl new to paintball

09 December 2008 - 06:08 PM

My boyfriend is really in to paintball so I've decided to start playing too. I've played a lot of sports, even soccer in college, but never paintball. I don't know much about it and even though he's doing his best to teach me, I'd like to learn as much as I can on my own. He's buying me my first gun and gear, but I'd like to know a few things before I start playing. I'll just list out a few questions and if anyone can help me out, that'd be great. Thanks!

- The gun my boyfriend is getting me is an autococker. If I'm not sure how fast my trigger fingers will be, is it a good idea to go autococker instead of electric?
- How do girls who play usually get treated?
- Should I buy real paintball jerseys and pants or would sweats and sweatshirts suffice?
- How much does it cost, on average, to start playing?
- What do I need to take to the field on an average day?
- Is there a good way to train to improve play? Sprints? Endourance? Stregnth?
- Any other tips??

Thanks!!!!
