it makes the colors just look muddy in my opinion.
no offense or being rude, but thats honestly what it looks like.
Kinda lost some detail in the highlights and shaddows.

Editing is like spices. They are very helpful in creating a fantastic dish, but too much of it can ruin a good meal.

I would get her a....nikon... d3100

($649)

Its got hd movie mode, and its probably plenty "high tech" for your mom.
It shoots great pics and is very user friendly.

Are you serious? You've prided yourself as a "professional" photographer for the past few months, and you don't even see the benefit of filters off the camera? I'd never use a filter programmed into the camera.

When did I ever claim to be pro?
I've never made that claim. I don't even call myself a photographer unless shooting for my school, in which, I am being a photographer.

Besides a polarizing filter, there is no real need for many filters now-a-days and in my opinion, UV ones are a total waste of money. I'd just as soon buy a clear filter.

Lenses nowadays have coatings on the front and sensors have protective layers on them to protect against UV.
Please. Do not doubt that I know what I am talking about.
