making paintball bunkers out of snow

16 January 2012 - 01:41 PM

Just curious... has anyone tried making speedball / hyperball style bunkers out of snow, and then tried playing with them? Just watching kids make snowmen and snow forts in the local school field has given me ideas on making a winter outlaw field...

NPPL in Vancouver for 2012?

20 December 2011 - 07:05 PM

Sooo.... what's this I hear about the NPPL coming to Vancouver in 2012?

Very cool if true. My hometown can really host a kickass party (see 2010 Olympics).

Best ways to load FS rounds from conventional setup

07 December 2011 - 07:15 PM

So, I clicked on one of the ads from Techpb, and checked out a neat promo vid by Planet Eclipse (pushing their new HDE soft goods and markers). Not bad, kinda reminded me of the old Spec Ops vids from a little while back. Very "Hollywood"-ish action movie feel, rather than a realistic representation of paintball.

One thing that got me going, "Hmmmm..." was a scene where someone took their Etek / Ego (can't remember which... just remember that it was a stacked tube poppit) and loaded an FS round by removing the bolt from the back of the marker, hand loaded the FS round, put the bolt back in (thus pushing the FS round up into the breech), and fired. It was something I had never considered doing... I always assumed people were removing the barrels from their markers, hand loading FS rounds into the back of the barrel, then firing it (I believe I saw Mike do this with a pumped Trilly when he first did a vid of FS rounds).

Very neat. Faster than going through the front of the marker. Easier too. And an interesting way of using your average regular paintball marker to fire the occasional FS round.

Any drawbacks to this method? I'm guessing it would be over the 300fps limit if you chronoed at 300 with regular paint. And you'd have to make sure the breech was clear of any other paint first.

Remembrance Day

10 November 2011 - 07:08 PM

Just a reminder to everyone playing paintball tommorrow, November 11th, please take a moment to remember the veterans that returned from various wars and conflicts, and those that did not. In Commonwealth nations (such as my country of Canada), November 11th is known as Remembrance Day, and we mark the day by wearing a red poppy and observing a minute or two of silence at 11am. In the States, I believe you mark the day as Veterans Day, although I can't say I'm familiar with your rituals of remembrance.

We enjoy many freedoms, thanks to those who have served, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The least we can all do is give one minute of our busy lives, once a year.

What if?

Purely hypothetical question, but what do you think would have happened if Angel had been able to iron out the details on the Angel Eyes design and release it shortly after they debuted it?

Do you think it would have proven popular?

Do you think it would have saved the company from going under?

Do you think it would have changed the way masks are designed in the future?

Just curious as to what people on Techpb think. I personally think it would have been fairly popular, sales-wise. Maybe not outselling the current top selling masks, but enough to have kept the company going for a bit longer. Also, somehow I think it would have been more popular with the rec-ball crowd, rather than the tourney one. Probably because air-ballers tend to buy what they see on the top tourney teams, and I don't think Angel had the kind of sponsorship dollars to spend that KEE or Dye has.

Give Angel credit for trying something different, and putting their R&D dollars into NOT copying what's already out there. That being said, it's too bad they couldn't fix all the issues that they had with the pre-production versions, and get this thing to market.
